I was tagged by Winz. At least he got me to post again, huh? Bet you thought I was gone for good…

1. Describe a memory from your first triathlon ever.

That was the Danskin. One of my favorite memories from that tri actually happened the day before the tri at the pre-race meeting. The first book I bought about tris was “Triathlons For Women” by Sally Edwards and then there she was speaking to us and so pumped and excited. The whole crowd was excited and laughing (including quite a few boyfriends/husbands) and I thought it was a great way to start off my tri career.

2. Describe a memory from your most recent triathlon.

One that I finished? That would be one of the LA Tri series that I volunteered at last year. I wasn’t expecting to compete but there was a relay team looking for someone to run. I “happened” to have my running shoes with me so I joined them - 3 Bum Knees - and we won a medal! Woo.

3. What’s the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you in a tri?

The DNF at Vineman and that I was so disappointed I cried.

4. What’s the most thrilling thing that’s happened to you in a tri?

At the Steamboat sprint, I was leap frogging with this woman on the bike. Finally, one time when I was trying to pass her she accused me of drafting and said something like “You have another lap on the bike still and then you have to run a 5k, honey”. It was the “honey” that got me. It totally pissed me off and I thought “just watch me” and I dropped her a$$. I must admit I had pretty satisfied smirk on my face when I saw her on the run (which was an out and back) and knew that I had built up a pretty good lead on her. We weren’t in the same age group but the icing on the cake was getting 3rd place in my age group and she was there to see it. Ha!

5. What is something you discovered about yourself by doing triathlons?

I can take care of myself and I don’t need to rely on anyone, but that I’m okay with accepting help. It used to be an issue for me.

6. What is The Big Goal that you’re working towards?

Completing an Ironman.

P.S. I am running and riding.  Nothing spectacular, but I’m happy with it.  I still haven’t made it into the pool so I already blew one of my goals from my last post.  But hopefully soon.  :)
